When hoping to gain a skill, you should always craft the item that uses the least resources and gives you at least a 0.1% chance of failure.
You could gain in skill by book to book copying but this is not going to provide you with any monetary returns if you are intending to turn a profit.
Every scroll you inscribe can be sold to an NPC mage. This is a mana intensive skill, so you might want to invest in some Mana Regeneration equipment, or get a druid friend to cast an Enchanted Grove spell to keep your mana replenished.
Meditation is also helpful, so you will want to wear ordinary clothes, leather or mage armour.
This can take some time to master so be prepared to take some time over it or return to it in instalments.
You will need alot of reagents as LRC equipment will not help here.

- blank scrolls : 1600
- nightshade : 1800
- mandrake : 1600
- black pearl : 1600
- bloodmoss : 1600
- spider's silk : 1800
- sulphurous ash : 1600
- (garlic and ginseng for GM to legendary)
Method
- Buy the starting skill from an NPC mage - that will take you to approximately 30.
- Copy a written book (one of your own) to a blank book to 50.0. Use the inscription skill from your skills gump by pressing the blue jewel to the left of the skill name. You can reuse the book that you copied into.
- Make 'Poison' scrolls using nightshade to 53.5 skill (100% success)
- Make 'Lightning' scrolls using mandrake and sulphurous ash or 'Recall' using black pearl, blood moss and mandrake root to 67.8 (100% success). Lightning is cheaper to make but Recall can be used to charge rune books so you may prefer to make those.
- Make 'Magic Reflection' or 'Paralyse' using garlic, spider's silk and mandrake for both to 82.1 (100% success).
- Make 'Energy Bolt' using black pearl and mandrake, 'Invisibility' using blood moss and nightshade or 'Reveal' using blood moss and sulphurous ash to 96.4 (100% success).
- Make 'Flamestrike' using spider's silk and sulphurous ash to 100.0 (100% success)
Beyond Grand Master you can make BOD books to 115.0% if you have lots of money.
- Alternatively make 'Flamestrike' to 110.7 (100% success)
- Finish off by making 'Resurrection' using bloodmoss, garlic and ginseng to 120.0 (100%)
