World Chat is the stream of text across the bottom left hand portion of your window. To converse with everyone 'out there' you type [c followed by your text.

  eg [c Hello everyone.

Do not use it to repeatedly spam the channel with adverts and be aware that there is an automatic filter that can occasionally intercept your messages and censor them with ****. This is usually because the word you have typed contains a string of letters that may be offensive.

There are also Channels for your guild, any alliances your guild belongs to, Pharos, and Spanish.

  To access Guild channel - precede your text with [g;
            Alliance - start with [a
            Pharos - start with [p

If you get a message telling you that you have to join a channel first then do the following

• Type [c or [a or [p and you will get a gump showing who is logged on from that list - ie [c gives you the list of everyone (not hidden) who is logged in.

• Click the 'M' to the top of this gump.

• Check the channel(s) you wish to switch on from the list at the top of this next gump. You will now be able to chat in that channel.

You can send a message to another player. It should not be seen as a private message except in the sense that other players will not see it. The Shard Admin will be able to access this so please abide by the rules of the Shard and other common sense internet safety.

     So for example, to send me a message, you would type [pm Narumi.

If you only partially type the name, you will get the options that it may be presented to you. The box you get is bigger than the message you can send. You are restricted to about 4 or 5 lines.

When you get a reply, or a message, it pops up on your screen as a golden shield - click this to open the post.

You can access your mailbox in the same way as accessing the chat channels above but looking in the 'Views' section. When your inbox is full (50) then you will not receive any more post until it is cleared out. Other players will also know it is full as they will not be able to send you a message.

Sometimes you just want to get away from it all. If you want to appear as 'busy' or 'away' or even 'hidden' then you can change your status by typing [c or [p and clicking on the small brass button at the bottom of this gump.

If you choose 'away' then you can set an away message that people will see when they send you a private message.
