Ancient Spells

The system requires an ancient spell book to use. The book requires that it is registered before it can be used.

To register an Ancient Spellbook, simply left click it and select "use". One book may be registered per hour and you may only have one book registered at a time. You can hold seven spells in an ancient book.

To place a spell in the book, single left click the book and click "add". You may put one spell into the book every 10 minutes until it has all 7 spells.

To quickly cast ancient spells, you can use the [ancientspell command. This command will cast a spell out of your currently registered spell book. If you do not have one registered, or it is not in your backpack, the spell will not cast. You must provide the number of the spell you want to cast. For example, [ancientspell 3 would cast the third spell in your registered book.

Spells are crafted using glyphs at the ancient spell forge. You need to be standing within one tile of the forge to use it. It is guarded, so you may want to bring some friends to help out.

Glyphs have several properties:

   * Intensity (1 to 10)
   * Element:
         o Physical
         o Fire
         o Cold
         o Poison
         o Energy
   * Effect: (16 Effects Total)
         o Bolt: Do some damage
         o Essence: Do some damage or make a wall like stone wall (depending on the configuration)
         o Drain Stamina: drains stamina and gives it to the caster
         o Fatigue: Lowers the stamina of the target
         o Refresh Stamina: Heals the stamina of the target
         o ...
   * Target
         o Single: You're casting the spell on a single monster, player or land tile.
         o Area: You're casting the spell on an area (Think Meteor Swarm).
         o Custom: You choose the land tiles where the spell will strike.
   * Subtarget
         o None: The spell is a normal cast once spell.
         o Field: The spell will be a wall.
         o Duration: The spell will happen over time.

When you first double click the Ancient Spell Forge, you will be given a menu:

To add a glyph to the spell, simply click the (+) to the left of the slot you want to add the glyph to. You can have one glyph per slot (four glyphs per spell). If you click the (-) to the left of a glyph that has been added to the spell, it will be removed from the spell and the entire spell will reset. The spell uses the aspect of the glyph that matches the slot you put the glyph into.

  For example, if I place a glyph into the Effect slot, the spell will use whatever effect is on the glyph and will ignore all other properties of the glyph except the intensity of the glyph.

When all four glyphs are selected for a spell, the spell's Base Configuration is calculated by averaging all the intensities of the glyphs (Overall Intensity). This overall intensity determines things like how many tiles you can select in a custom target, the range of a range spell, and the amount of points you initially have to spend on customizing the spell. From this point, you can spend points to customize the spell. The right hand side of the gump shows the spell configuration. You may spend points by clicking the (+) or (-) next to each aspect of the spell listed on the right.

  For example, if I wanted to reduce the casting time required to cast the spell, I could click the (-) next to cast time and it would spend some of the points and reduce the cast time. On the other hand, you can make a spell worse in some aspects to gain more points to spend in other areas. For example, you may increase the mana cost of the spell in order to increase the potency.

Now there are two values associated with each of the aspects. There is a bid amount and an ask amount associated with each aspect. The value that is used is determined by the value of the the aspect in relation to the Base Configuration. For example, suppose I put four glyphs into the forge and my base configuration says that my mana cost for the spell is 20 mana. If I want to reduce the amount of mana that is required, it is going to cost me some points. (Let's just make up a number and say that it costs 10 points to reduce the mana cost by 1)

Now I can click (-) next to the mana cost to spend 10 points to reduce the mana cost by one. (I'm improving the spell so it costs me 10 points) In this example, my mana cost would now be 19. Now if I click the (+) sign next to the mana cost, I will receive a refund of all 10 points and the mana cost will now be 20.

If I click the (+) next to the mana again, I am now making the mana cost of the spell worse for me. Points are given to me, but because I'm making it worse from the base configuration, I will only be rewarded a smaller amount.

So if an aspect is worse than the base configuration, it will cost less to improve it and you will receive less points if you worsen it. If an aspect is better than the base configuration, it will cost you more to improve it and you will receive more for worsening it.

Targets & Subtargets

These may seem confusing at first. There are 9 combinations that can be made using these two aspects of the spell. You must have exactly one target and one subtarget for a spell. The choice of these two things determines the behavior of your spell.

  For example, choosing a target: single and a subtarget: duration would cause the spell be cast on one target, but occur multiple times over time. A single duration heal spell would behave like the cleric spell sacred boon.

The custom target is a way of choosing specific tiles you want the spell effect to occur on. The number of these targets will be shown on the right side of the spell configuration. This number is determined by the intensity of your spell. In the above image, a grid can be seen with a pin in the center of the grid. When custom target is selected, a button will appear below the grid called "Click to Set". This button allows you to set the tiles you choose. This is accomplished by clicking on the grid squares and then pressing the "Click to set" button.

  For example, you could choose custom target, field subtarget and you would be able to cast a field spell that would appear on the tiles you selected on the grid.

There are many many details to this system that are left for players to discover. Posted on the Forums by Xevode ยป Mon Jun 07, 2010
